Now I am not going to tell you that I am a great cook. Heck I am not even going to tell you that I could be called a “cook”. But I will tell you that I love cook books. I love everything about them. I like to look at the pictures, I like to read what goes into making the different recipes. I even think of what pan I would prepare it in and what plate I would serve it on. Needless to say I have a whole collection of cook books, everything from soup to nuts as they say.

I will admit I still pull out the book that I had as a child when my mother was a 4-H leader. That was a great time. I was attending Wilson Elementary School out in the country of Alpena, Michigan. A bunch of us kids met in the school cafeteria and had our cooking class.

I think my mother was ahead of her time. We are talking about 40 years ago. She taught things kids could make on their own. We are talking before microwaves and we are also talking before anyone had ever heard the term latch-key kid.

We would walk into a spotless elementary school kitchen and that is the way we left it, spotless. We were taught how to make quick and healthy items to eat. It was after school and in school so we were safe. and we got to eat what we made, how cool is that? Cleanup was an important part of our learning about cooking too but with all of us pitching in that didn’t take long.

By the way, my molasses crinkle cookies won first prize in the 4-H cookie contest that year for my age group. I still make those cookies. The recipe comes from that kids cook book that sits proudly among my mass cookbook collection.

I have just come across away to create my own cookbook. It too is quite the concept.
Tastebook. Make a personal cookbook.
