Spinning Lady=
A recent news item caught my attention.

It was discussing the differences in people who are right or left brain dominant, and what effects that has on their personality and motivation.

This news story about brain function got me thinking about how the way our brains operate, as individuals, effects every area of our lives, from personal relationships through to business decisions.

Like most of us, I’ve been aware of the general differences in the way male and female brains operate, but always knew that this didn’t always apply.  There are women who are competitive and dominating, just as there are men who are easy-going and happy to let others win.

This news story spoke of a simple “spinning lady” test that can determine whether you are right or left brain dominant, and whether you can switch between the two.

The left brain functions are:  uses logic, detail oriented, facts rule, words and language, present and past, math and science, can comprehend, knowing, acknowledges, order/pattern perception, knows object name, reality based, forms strategies, practical, and safe.

The right brain functions are:  uses feeling, “big picture” oriented, imagination rules, symbols and images, present and future, philosophy and religion, can “get it”, believes, appreciates, spatial perception, knows object function, fantasy based, presents possibilities, impetuous, and risk taking.

Whether we are right or left brain dominant, or are able to focus and swap between the two, must have a significant effect upon how we make decisions and cope in our everyday lives.

As a wife, mother and business owner, I have often wondered about my ability and inability to cope with certain situations, and I think that this sheds a little light on why I behave the way I do at times, when even I don’t understand me.  (Perhaps it isn’t always hormones).

So take a look at the Spinning Lady Test, and if you feel inclined, let me know your thoughts.

I find that the lady is spinning Clockwise.
After I finished reading the list of what the right brains function is
I glance back and see that she is now spinning counter clockwise, at least
briefly. After watching for a bit I conclude that I have more right brain function
than left because she spins clockwise most of the time for me.

    Very interesting Karen.

So I wonder if I had my husband look at it and he was the opposite of me,
would that be a good thing or a bad thing? If we were opposite you
would think that we could have a better “whole picture attitude of living together.”
On the other hand, if we both see the lady spinning the same way we would be more
    compatible.

When he gets home I’ll ask him to look.

    Wow, I’m dizzy! LOL

This is very interesting to me Karen for more than one reason. My son has Aspergers Syndrome, a form of high functioning autism, and he is prone to severe anxiety. The behavior specialist with the school district has been working with him on left/right brain functions to deal with his anxiety. According to this specialist, my son tends to use his right brain and the goal of therapy is to get the two sides communicating.

I found that the spinning lady switched directions half way through. She’d spin counter clockwise one turn, then spin clockwise… back and forth… which is why I’m now dizzy.

OK I took the test. I got 4 for the right and 4 for the left but it to said I was a right brainer for the most part. Just as the spinning lady had indicated.
    Very interesting Test.
Sort of like that test that you take to determine what your should be going into for your future.
I should have been a Forrest Ranger according to the test. I can see me doing that and never in a million years woudl I have thought of that as a profession.
Whatever my letters were to describe me I was the one that only 10% of the population is.
I knew I danced to a differnet drummer.
