Pick up a newspaper, turn on the radio or television, surf the web… it’s everywhere. Are people really this afraid, or is there a market in making YOU afraid? I think there are probably some who truly do believe and fear that their very survival is at risk. And then there are those who will profit from scaring the bejeezus out of the masses.
There is little doubt that a recession, economic downturn, or depression, whatever name you wish to apply, does mean more people will be turning to the internet to supplement, or replace their current incomes. And savvy marketers are out there in full force to convince the fearful public that their product or service is the ONE that will not only save them from economic ruin, but deliver them riches beyond their expectations, while allowing them to work from home. Some might say, that the world wide web is once again ripe for scammers. That’s a whole other article…
Reality Check
Is the sky really falling? Or as some would tell you, has it already? Or is the Law of Attraction at work, as it always is, taking away the wealth that was achieved on the competitive field and based in greed. Did you know that over 100 years ago, great thinkers of the day like Wallace D. Wattles wrote that it is entirely possible to get rich through competitive means, as opposed to the more desirable creative means, but that competitive wealth is fleeting. Wealth achieved through creation and cooperation is lasting and real, whereas that achieved through greed does not last, and is not truly satisfying.
I wonder what the lives of the Wall Street CEO’s was really like, even in times of prosperity. Didn’t they always have to be on guard, watching their every step, looking around corners to ensure that they adequately cover their tracks, that they are not being scrutinized? Surely their lives were not all glitz and glamour. There is a price to pay when you win through cut throat competition and greed. And utimately, even the winners lose. Because it is fleeting…
“They are like the monster reptiles of the prehistoric eras. They play a necessary part in the evolutionary process, but the same power which produced them will dispose of them. And it is well to bear in mind that they have never been really rich; a record of the private lives of most of this class will show that they have really been most abject and wretched.”
The Science of Getting Rich (1910)
Wallace D Wattles
And so, if we interpret the words of Wattles, we can clearly see the truth. The current economic downturn is simply part of the evolutionary process. Those who climbed the competitive ladder, knocking it down to prevent others from following, had no way to climb back down… they had to jump or fall off, but they had to come down.
On the other hand, those that get rich “the certain way”, on the creative plane, will enjoy true wealth. These are the people who climb that ladder, and inspire others to follow them. People living and working and building wealth on the creative plane have nothing to fear in this economic downturn. On the contrary, perhaps it is a reason to celebrate and express gratitude. Yes, gratitude… for those who climbed that ladder and fell, because that was a necessary step in our economic evolution.
In your quest to achieve prosperity, I urge you not to latch on to the program that promises you riches at the push of a button. Chances are good that if you were led to a business opportunity based on your fear, that the people behind it are working on the competitive plane. Know that whatever product, service or company you choose to promote on the internet will require real work on your part. Seek out people who are working on the creative plane - those who will inspire you to do the same.

Karen there may be a recession going on but I have chosen not to participate. I am sure your right about the people joining us in this great business of marketing on line. I hope that they know that it takes time and patience, and yes that dreaded 4 letter word …W O R K.
But I myself can’t think of anything I would rather being.

It’s good to hear honest to goodness assessment on the practices of some who are out just for themselves. As a newbie, I am so glad to see that there is a culture within the Internet Marketing Business that I can trust.

Absolutely Mike… for every dishonest person out there, there are at least two honest ones. It’s just that the bad guys are making all the noise! Most people who are working on the competitive plane, are not bad people either… that is where we were taught to work. It’s just not productive.

Rock Solid Karen! So I take it this means we don’t need to count on our politicians to ’save us’ either??

Garnet, I’d even take that a step further to say politicians can’t ’save’ us. They can only prolong the inevitable. IMHO

I love this article, Karen! It actually cracks me up to hear all of the complaining going on because some people have to learn to live without their luxuries. If you’ve ever survived on next to nothing for any length of time, you know the difference between a real necessity and a luxury. It’s just as the Rolling Stones once sang, “You can’t always get what you want, but if you try some time, you might find you get what you need.”
