It’s that time of year when I get the bug… the Spring Cleaning bug. Time to de-clutter and organize. It is amazing to me how much “stuff” we can accumulate! I am NOT a collector. If I don’t use it regularly, I get rid of it. So I personally don’t accumulate much stuff at all. What I did was marry a collector. A fellow who still has clothes from his teen years. He has some of his father’s old suit jackets that he will never wear but couldn’t part with. This is in addition to momentos and keepsakes that are much more sensible than old clothes…

My two children have inherited their father’s collector gene. They have collections of just about everything you can think of. They are also environmentalists so anything that is of new use anymore gets recycled into something of equal uselessness (in my humble opinion).

I don’t begrudge my family their collecting habits, but I am forever searching for ways to reduce clutter and keep collections organized. As long as it has a place, I am happy to allow them to keep their strange “things”.

The one thing I am guilty of collecting is books, magazines and newspapers. I have always enjoyed reading, but have never liked the clutter my reading materials create. So, you can imagine my delight when Amazon came out with the Kindle Reader.

Not only will I save money by buying publications at a huge discount, but no more clutter! Not only that, but I can carry my library in my purse. I can keep up with my favorite blogs while on the lake (no internet connection required). This is just amazing - no wonder they are on back order!
